Our Centers of Excellence are at the heart of MSA research, conducting studies that shape the future of diagnosis, care, and treatment. This work represents the dedication of scientists, clinicians, and patients working together to change the future of MSA.

At-home wearables and machine learning capture motor impairment and progression in adult ataxias.
We test whether movement-building block characteristics (i.e., submovements), obtained from the wrist and ankle during natural behavior at home, can sensitively capture disease progression in SCAs and MSA-C, as recently shown in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and ataxia telangiectasia (A-T).

Approach to Cardiovascular Autonomic Dysfunction in Patients with Synucleinopathies
In this article we review standard means of screening, detecting, and treating orthostatic hypotension (OH) and supine hypertension (SH) in the alpha-synucleinopathies – conditions including Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multiple system atrophy. We also cover more nuanced things that should be considered based on the disease process and novel/experimental approaches to treating OH and SH. This article is written for any neurologist treating these patients.

An update on multiple system atrophy
The authors provide an update on α-synuclein’s role in MSA pathophysiology and review the new Movement Disorders Society (MDS) diagnostic criteria and the utility of α-synuclein-based biomarkers.
