The Mission MSA Cares Grant offers short-term, in-home professional care to individuals diagnosed with or caring for someone diagnosed with multiple system atrophy (MSA). Each approved applicant can receive up to 41.5 hours of in-home professional care, valued at up to $40 per hour. The funds are paid directly to the licensed homecare agency selected by the recipient.

- Companionship and supervision
- Meal preparation and light housekeeping
- Medication reminders and assistance with activities of daily living
- Bathing, dressing, and mobility support
Eligibility Criteria
Diagnosis Requirement:
- To receive care, the individual must have a confirmed diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) from a neurologist or Movement Disorder Specialist (e.g., MD, DO, NP, PA). Please submit only a one-page Letter of verification confirming MSA diagnosis; do not upload any medical records.
Residency and Living Situation:
- The applicant must reside within the United States.
- The individual must live at home (not in an assisted living facility, residential care facility, or nursing home).
Financial:
- The patient’s combined household income must be less than $90,000 per year; OR
- They must not hold an active long-term insurance policy. This type of policy helps cover costs for services like assistance with bathing and dressing. It provides financial support for care in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or at home, protecting your savings from high expenses.
Existing Care Services:
- The patient must not be receiving more than 20Â hours per week of professional in-home care services.

Using the Grant Hours
Is there a waiting period before I can use my grant hours?
There is no waiting period. Once you select a home care agency, the funds will be available to you immediately.

Recipients are allotted a four-month period from the award date to make use of their grant hours.

Does Mission MSA manage care scheduling?
Mission MSA doesn’t schedule care, so please coordinate directly with your chosen home care agency. The 41.5 hour program is flexible; you can decide how to allocate the hours, whether quickly or over time, like 10 hours a week for four weeks. Be sure to discuss your scheduling preferences and any minimum shift or weekly hour requirements with the agency to find a plan that works best for you.

What is the billing process?
As soon as your care services begin, invoices will be submitted directly from the home care agency to Mission MSA for payment. Mission MSA manages the grant funds and will reimburse the agency directly as a private pay client.
